Something extraordinary happened to me recently. Many of you are aware that we had a special election in Massachusetts to fill the late Senator Edward Kennedy’s seat. I won’t get into the politics around who won and who lost (you can find that in plenty of other places)! I do want to describe how this event impacted me.
I was driving to the polls and it was pouring down with rain. I remember being surprised that I hadn’t seen one person campaigning for either candidate that day. I guess rough weather is just too much of an inconvenience for most people.
Then I saw him.
At one of the busiest intersections in Springfield, a man was holding a campaign sign, waving at the passing cars. They all sped past him, seemingly oblivious. I stopped at the light, observing him -- instantly struck by his unfailing spirit. No matter what others did, he was convicted. He was out there because he gave a damn.
He was doing what he could do.
As the light turned green, I honked my horn and waved at him. He waved back, a huge smile spreading across his face. I see you. I said to him in my mind. Be well.
As I drove on, I was surprised to find tears in my eyes. His act of conviction was a lightning rod for me. In that moment, I knew:
I am here to inspire people to do what they can do.
Suddenly, it was all crystal clear to me – so stunningly obvious that it could never be forgotten or denied again. I’ve always known this inside, but now the internalized was realized.
Everything serves greatness.
Everything lines up when we are open to the unfolding.
This was my Abundant Epiphany. Want to explore this emerging concept with me? I’ll be leading an r&d call on this hot topic on Wednesday. I hope to hear your voice.
